Mr Xiong Tsechalicha

Xiong Tsechalicha holds a Master Degree in Environmental Management and Development as well as a Master of Labour Economics. He has more than fifteen years of work experience in Environmental and Natural Resources Management and Development. He has worked with many institutions and organizations, notably the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and its predecessor as a short term consultant, and the Department of Forestry (through IUCN Lao PDR) on protected area issues, and recently as a Senior Environmental Specialist with the Mekong River Commission Secretariat in Vientiane, Lao PDR. For the most part of his career he has worked with IUCN Lao PDR as Senior Programme Officer and later as Protected Areas Coordinator. His areas of expertise include protected area management and biodiversity conservation, environmental and social impact assessment and community development. His major work experiences include work on protected area (PA) review methodology for classification of the Lao National Protected Areas in accordance with the international PA category system, environmental and social baseline surveys and Initial Environmental Examination of hydropower projects, study on economic instruments in environmental management and sustainable protected area financing mechanisms.
